Stats that Matter is a series of animated shorts that visualize data about social and systemic injustice.

This project was started by Titus, a motion designer who researches and animates every episode. Each one features a completely unique design by a different artist.

I worked with Titus to create Episode 11. This episode addresses prison labor wages, racial imbalances within prisons, and calls out companies that currently profit off of the prison industrial complex through unpaid (or barely paid) labor.

A grid of screenshots from the animation. UNICOR prisoners make a minimum hourly wage of $0.23 and a maximum of $1.15. 73% of inmates are people of color. Companies still using prison labor include Nintendo, Victoria's Secret, Starbucks, Wendy's, Walmart, Target, and American Airlines.
